FAISALABAD:

Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan said on Thursday that at least 51 chairmen, elected in the first phase of local government elections, in Faisalabad district have applied for the slots of mayor and deputy mayor of Faisalabad Municipal Corporation (FMC).

Speaking to media persons, Sanaullah said that the party leadership had been reviewing the situation and the final decision for selection of FMC mayor and deputy mayor candidates would be announced after consulting with all stakeholders.

He said there would be six deputy mayors in Faisalabad and they were expecting even more applications from winning candidates.

Sanaullah said there were no rifts in party ranks and all party workers, activists and sympathisers worked together despite their differences. “We have to abide by party discipline and our leaders’ instructions.”

The law minister said Pakistan was passing through a critical stage. “The government is trying to overcome terrorism and energy crisis and for this purpose, political stability is imperative.” He said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Instaf’s protests had set the country back a whole year.
