PEPCO announces new wave of loadshedding

PEPCO has announced more loadshedding as power generation declines due to foggy and cold weather.

PEPCO has announced more loadshedding as cold and foggy weather has resulted in shortfall of nearly 4,000 megawatts in the country.

PEPCO sources claimed earlier that the shortfall was 2,500 megawatts whereas power generation was at a meager 10,000 megawatts.

PEPCO sources say IPPs are producing 6,439 megawatts, thermal production is 1,570 megawatts with the same figure being generated by hydel plants. Source say earlier cities were suffering power outages of  up to six hours a day while rural areas experienced at least 10 hours.

This has now been increased to eight hours of power cuts in cities and 12 hours of loadshedding in villages.

A PEPCO spokesman has said that all efforts are being made to reduce the gap between supply and demand so that the economic and social activities can continue as per schedule.
