Swabi district council employees demand salaries
Insiders say majority of employees have not been paid over the last three months
LOCAL GOVERNMENT:
Employees of Swabi district council took to the streets on Tuesday to press the government to release their salaries.
Insiders told The Express Tribune, a majority of employees have not been paid over the last three months.
“The government has repeatedly expressed its willingness to transfer powers to the grass-roots level,” Anwar Kamal, president of a local government employees association, said. “However, they haven’t released the salaries of many employees.”
He added all salaries must be released by December. “If this isn’t done, offices in the district will be shut down,” Kamal said.
