LAHORE:

Canary Cove by Tanya Fatah Maskatiya and Nadia’s Closet by Nadia Taseer Fatah put together a one-day trunk show at designer Sania Maskatiya’s outlet in Lahore. The three ladies share a penchant for all-things fashion and Tanya shares family ties with both Nadia and Sania, which led the first two to  collaborate with each other with the latter lending her swanky space for the exhibition shown on November 21.

Tanya’s brand was launched in September last year at Sania’s store in Karachi. She started off with selling a few trinkets for children and a month later, launched an accessory line for women. She currently stocks a few accessories for children along with bracelets and earrings for women, all of which she purchases from abroad. “All the jewellery is made with alloy in places such as Mexico, China, Thailand and Hong Kong. The bracelets are all plated in white gold, yellow gold and rose gold while the stones are either zircon or top-quality Austrian crystals,” she shared.

The price range of the Inspire Range at Canary Cove lies between Rs2,500 and Rs9,500. Tanya’s bespoke line features earrings that are sold under the same name and are handmade in Karachi using natural pearls. The price range for this is between Rs 17,500 to Rs 24,500. She stocks at Breathe on Khayaban-e-Bokhari and is currently taking orders on her Facebook page until her website is up and running.

This time around, Nadia showcased with Tanya, presenting a line called ‘Nadia’s Closet for Canary Cove’. Tanya stated, “It’s an ideal label for the expansion of my jewellery line. Nadia was my go-to person for the depth I wanted to add to Canary Cove.”

Nadia launched Nadia’s Closet in 2006 after working with Dolly Jones, editor of Vogue UK. Under the label, she created a range of vintage clothing and accessories inspired by her Swedish grandmother, who offered her pieces from the 1920s and 1930s. “My ideas are all from the 1960s and 1970s and I mix-and-match them with other inspirations,” mentioned Nadia. These inspirations could be seen in a ring inspired by rough surfaces such as sand on a clean surface.

She usually experiments with stones, such as aqeeq, turquoise, lapis and jade, to create handmade silver jewellery with 22 carat gold-plating.  “I’ve been in Karachi for four years and decided take a leap into vintage-inspired jewellery three years ago. Initially, I thought people were into vintage jewellery but they weren’t so I started to mix it with semi-precious stones,” added Nadia. Items at Nadia’s Closet have been worn by the likes of Keira Knightley, Courtney Love and Helena Christiansen. Her products are priced between Rs6,000 and Rs12,000.

Tanya will showcase at the British Women’s Association Christmas Fair in Karachi. Soon after, both designers will exhibit their collections at Ensemble on December 14 in Karachi. Nadia has plans to display her vintage clothing line alongside jewellery on the day.
