Not guilty: Cleric acquitted in hate speech case

Cases against Farooqi were registered in Pirwadhai and Sadiqabad police stations

A court in Rawalpindi has acquitted a cleric in a hate speech and loudspeaker act violation case. Race Course Police Station had booked Maulana Abdul Kareem, of Jamia Masjid Al-Bashir, for violating ban on loudspeaker and delivering a hate speech in July this year. Kareem’s counsel, however, maintained that his client did not make any hate speech, nor is the recorded voice is his client’s. The court has acquitted Kareem. A hate speech case against Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi was adjourned till November 27. Cases against Farooqi were registered in Pirwadhai and Sadiqabad police stations.
