PM inaugurates Khanewal-Multan section of motorway
Development projects in Pakistan came to a halt after 1999 due to a lack of focus by previous governments

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Khanewal-Multan section of the Multan-Faisalabad motorway on Saturday, Radio Pakistan reported.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the premier said Pakistan has been left behind in terms of development due to a lack of focus by previous governments on energy and construction projects.
"If development work had not come to a halt in the country after 1999, Pakistan's situation would have been different today," PM Nawaz said.

On the occasion, the premier, accompanied by Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana was briefed over the 56 kilometer long four lane M-4 project.
"The M-4 project which includes four interchanges, 17 bridges and 28 subways, has been completed at a cost of about Rs13 billion and will contribute towards the economy in terms of surge in employment and business opportunities," PM Nawaz said while adding that "the motorway will help farmers as their goods will be transported easily, saving time and money."
Further, the premier, while addressing the media and those in attendance, said that this motorway is a part of Karachi-Lahore motorway, which provides an additional linkage from Multan to other motorways.

"There are several development projects that have been started, including motorways, and energy development projects, which will help eliminate power crisis within a period of 3 years," he added.
Referring to Gwadar Port's free trade zone, PM Nawaz said, "the project will down in history and from then on development in Pakistan will reach a new height."
Earlier this month, the Balochistan government handed over 650 acres of land to a Chinese company for building and operating the Free Trade Area at Gwadar’s deep-sea port.
Chronic power crisis to end by 2017: PM
The landmark agreement was jointly signed by Gwadar Port Authority Director-General Mir Dosteen Jamaldini, Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hameed Abro and a Chinese official.
Further, PM Nawaz also discussed the situation of peace and stability in the country, stating that the law and order situation has improved and terrorism, which had once destroyed the image of Pakistan globally, has declined.
