PESHAWAR: William J Martin, the newly posted US Consul General in Peshawar, has reaffirmed US stance on strengthening its relations with Pakistan.

“Stronger relations are essential for coping with issues of militancy, which become harmful to global peace,” Martin said while addressing a gathering at US Consulate General on Thursday night.

In his address, the US Consul General highlighted various aspects of relations between both countries. “Both countries and its people are engaged in a drive against terror and for this purpose they make valuable contributions,” said Martin. He condemned the recent terrorist attack on Paris and termed it an inhumane, immoral and unethical act. All participants were requested to observe a moment of silence for the victims of Paris and other terror attacks throughout the world.

Martin reminded the attendees that people of Pakistan were not strangers for him. “It is my second posting in the country, earlier I served in Karachi.”  The US consul general said that his country will continue to support the development activities in Pakistan, particularly in K-P and its adjoining tribal belt.

“US is interested in peace and stability, which is only possible once terrorism is eliminated and the socio-economic needs of locals are addressed.”
