LAHORE:

The Department of Food Sciences and Human Nutrition of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, in collaboration with the Punjab Enabling Environment Project (PEEP), organised a one-day training workshop on “Data collection for assessment of loose milk supply to Lahore city” on Wednesday.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the workshop and the Punjab Food Authority Director Operations Ayesha Mumtaz was also present. Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said loose milk was causing serious food safety issues, so a formal minimally-pasteurised milk supply chain should be developed and maintained.

He said under PEEP the university would focus on Lahore and the model could later be replicated in other districts of Punjab. Ayesha Mumtaz said, “it is the duty of every citizen to ensure that the milk he purchases is free from poisonous substances.”
