KOTLI SATTIAN:

The Election Commission of Pakistan has postponed local body elections in union council (UC) Dhir Kot Sattian after objection by Durnian residents over the distance of polling station.

A five member bench lead by Chief Election Commissioner Justice Sardar Raza issued the postponement order during a hearing at the Election Commissioner Office on Tuesday.

Supreme Court Advocate Shafqat Mehmood Abbasi, on behalf of petitioners Shahid Satti and Azhar Satti, requested the court to shift the polling station from Dhir Kot Sattian to Islamabad for the residents of Durian village.

He suggested to the court that it would be easier for residents to cast their vote in Islamabad rather than Dhir Kot Sattian, which is located some 30 kilometres from the village. He told the court that local people are not taking part in the election due to this distance.

Kotli Sattian Returning Officer Ahmed Bilal Makhdoom and the joint secretary were also present in court to represent the government. It is pertinent to mention that a case regarding other UCs of Kotli Sattian is under way in the Rawalpindi High Court.
