LAHORE: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has condemned the assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, expressing grief and alarm at his murder and calling it a manifestation of growing intolerance in society.

The statement was issued by the commission on Tuesday. “A thorough inquiry to establish the motives of the killer must be held so that people do not jump to conclusions. It would be exceedingly unfortunate if it turns out that the governor’s call for sanity following Aasia Bibi’s death sentence or differences with political opponents in any way led to his assassination. The fact that the killer was a policeman is a matter of acute concern and shows the extent to which the services have been infected by intolerance,” the statement said.

Ajay | 13 years ago | Reply COAS Kayani..this is your opportunity...Pakistan is in need of a leader that can- 1)Impose taxes in order to generate revenue and keep prices in check as well as keep IMF funding coming in 2)Fight these Qadri supporting mullahs, repeal Blasphemy law, Sharia court, Council of Islamic Ideology, all ZIA amendments to constition & close down madrassas 3) Fight taliban & Alqaeda at border because west may make funding conditional which Pakistan will need in order to survive. A military coup by you in furtherance of these objectives and usurpation of all powers by declaring emergency will make you popular within and worldwide. Your coup will be not only popular but will be remembered by all Pakistanis in a future-happy-state Pakistan.
