RAWALPINDI:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday adjourned a case against Aurangzeb Farooqi, leader of the banned Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) till November 21. Farooqi was booked by the New Town Police Station, Rawalpindi for violating the loudspeaker ban in July.

The ASWJ general secretary has also been indicted in a hate speech case filed against him by the Counter-Terrorism Department.

On July 7, a special anti-terrorism court indicted Farooqi for spreading religious hatred.

On June 29, CTD officials submitted a charge-sheet against the ASWJ leader. Farooqi was arrested from Taxila on June 6 while heading to Havelian on a personal visit.

ATCs also recorded witnesses’ statements in 14 other cases on Friday. Three arrested members of the Jaish-e-Muhammad, a proscribed militant group, will be charge-sheeted on November 20 for allegedly collecting animal hides on Eidul Azha despite a ban.

In a kidnapping-for-ransom case, the anti-terrorism court has issued arrest warrants for Fatima Bibi, the suspect, and her guarantor Muahmmad Aslam.
