Development fund: Embezzlers’ remand extended

The suspects are accused of embezzling Rs100 million

An accountability court has extended the physical remand of 10 serving and retired officials, on Friday for another five days for misappropriating funds allocated for development projects in NA-21 constituency of Mansehra and Torghar districts.



The remand was extended by Ibrahim Khan, an accountability judge. The federal government had approved funds for NA-21 and had started 567 projects under People’s Works Programme with Rs225 million.

However, former district coordination officer in Mansehra, Zulfiqar Ali Shah and Monitoring and Evaluation Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Director General Ambar Ali Khan were suspected for embezzling Rs100 million. They misused their authority, ignored rules and regulations and approved bills for contractors.

Other officers arrested include former taxation officer Muhammad Bashir and ex-accountant Didar Khan.
