ISLAMABAD:

The Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Distributors’ Association has urged the government to lower taxes on LPG import.

“Hefty taxes on LPG import, amounting up to 23%, are an impediment to government’s efforts for ensuring adequate stocks,” said LPG Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar. “The taxes must be abolished at least for peak winter months, to meet demand-supply gap and maintain affordable prices,” he observed.

He said the association had prepared a summary spelling out an approach to offset shocks in LPG market and maintain the commodity’s price at Rs80 per kg. “Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had assured to abolish taxes on LPG import for a yearlong period,” he further added.
