PESHAWAR: A woman urged the provincial government and the Peshawar High Court to provide her justice after the police failed to arrest her husband and his cousins for killing her mother.

Aasia Bibi, a resident of Malakand Agency, made the request at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday. She was accompanied by her uncle, Saleemuddin.

“I married Muhammad Tahir a few years back,” she said. “However, I left him because of his abusive behaviour towards me and started living with my parents in Palay Dheri, Dargai tehsil.” According to Aasia Bibi, there was a long-standing property dispute between her husband and parents.

“On the morning of October 26, my husband – who was accompanied by his cousins Habibullah, Fazal Ilahi, Fazal Wahid and Fazal Ghani – came to meet me at my parents’ house,” she said. “As my mother, Sultan Begum, went into the kitchen to make tea for them, they went after her and started beating her.

They pulled out knives and stabbed Sultan Bibi multiple times. She could not survive the brutal attack and died.” The neighbours learnt about the incident. However, by then, it was too late as the culprits had managed to escape.  Aasia said an FIR has been registered but the police have so far failed to arrest the accused. She urged the relevant authorities to arrest her mother’s killers.
