Amid tight security, the polio teams completed the three-day campaign on Wednesday in almost half of the city, targeting 10 million children below five years of age.


The phase one of the three-day drive started on Monday, targeting around 10 million children in West, Central and East districts, including Jamshed Town, Gadap Town and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

According to health department officials, the polio teams covered almost 65 per cent target in two days amid tight security. They said that 2,800 police personnel were provided to the teams while Rangers were also present.

Meanwhile, the Emergency Operations Centre launched a polio campaign in the rest of the Sindh province, except Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar districts. The officials said that these three districts were already covered due to Diwali festival of Hindu community. The target in these districts is around six million. The officials said that there is no law and order issue outside Karachi.
