Regional bureaus: NAB meeting reviews performance

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) acting chairperson Muhammad Imtiaz Tajwar chaired a meeting at NAB headquarters to review performance of the NAB regional bureaus.

The meeting was informed that as directed by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, rationalised workload and timelines have been prescribed for efficient disposal of cases putting a maximum limit of 10 months --- from complaint verification to enquiry, to investigation and finally to a reference in the respective accountability courts.

It was also informed that standard operating procedures have been revised after a gap of 10 years to make them responsive to the needs of changed economic, social and technological realities and to improve performance of the top anti-corruption body.

It was further informed that NAB, on the directions of Chaudhry, has developed an effective monitoring and evaluation system having salient features of maintenance of data at each stage including complaint entry, complaint verification, enquiry, investigation, prosecution stage and record preservation.

NAB has also established its first forensic science lab at NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad office. The lab has facilities of digital forensics, and fingerprint analysis.

Tajwar said NAB was committed to eradicating corruption from the country.
