Setting standards: PIMS doctors conferred Allama Iqbal Gold Medal

Doctors of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) were conferred the Allama Iqbal Gold Medal on Tuesday for exhibiting professionalism and high standards of work ethics.


Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Barrister Usman Ibrahim awarded the medals at an event organised by Christian Welfare Association and Bright Future Society.

Appreciating the winners, he encouraged all doctors to maintain the highest professional standards which will them to further improve the health sector.


“Iqbal is a great pride for us, he is a man of global stature. He is a saviour for us who gave the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims of the Subcontinent, this idea was later transpired into reality by Quaid-e-Azam,” the minister was quoted saying in a press release.

Stressing upon the idea of interfaith harmony, Ibrahim said we all are Pakistanis irrespective of our religions.

“Christians are rendering great services in the field of medicine in Pakistan,” he said adding that the Christian community forms a reasonable segment in his constituency and he regularly meets them and celebrates Christmas with them.

Cuban Ambassador Jesús Zenén Buergo, expressing solidarity with Pakistan, said Allama Iqbal was a great political thinker.

Earlier, vice-chancellor of Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Prof Javed Akram addressing the participants had said Pims provides medical facilities to patients round the clock.
