Is black magic the reason behind Imran's divorce? Reham might think so

The Reham-Imran divorce saga just won't go away and this tweet by Reham certainly won't help

The Reham-Imran divorce saga just won't go away.

The high-profile split, which has been under heavy media speculation, seems to stay in the news despite attempts by Reham and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan to discredit all the 'false' reports circulating in the press.

Everything from poisoning attempts to domestic violence (Imran being the alleged victim), family feuds, and even the unfair treatment of Imran's dogs (yes, dogs), have been reported so far.

Imran, Reham announce divorce after 10 months of marriage

But this time the speculation is being fuelled by Reham herself. And it is without a doubt the most serious hint of why she thinks the marriage may have ended.

That's right, in a late tweet on Monday, Reham hinted her marriage may have been sabotaged by black magic, while referring to a Quranic verse pertaining to the use of black magic and separation.

The broadcast journalist didn't follow up with any tweets to clarify who or what exactly she was referring to, but did retweet a screenshot of the Quranic verse which discusses the use of black magic and how it was used in Prophet Sulaiman's time .

It wasn't long before Twitter caught on to Reham's tweet with many expressing utter shock at her statement. Others were kind and offered support in these tough times.

The isn't the first time either Reham or Imran have addressed their divorce. Earlier, the TV journalist in her first public appearance, while quoting Imran Khan, said anyone could hit a six but the real challenge is sustaining a slow partnership spanning a century and a full innings.

The comments were instantly picked up by large sections of the press as an apparent reference to Imran and Reham’s short-lived marriage. Reham later highlighted the irony of the situation:

The divorced mother of three has also been indirectly refuting numerous media reports, including one appearing in the British press.

According to British newspaper, Daily Mail, the marriage disintegrated “amid furious rows over everything from his friends to her attempts to ban his dogs from the bedroom.”

Although both Imran and Reham insist they parted amicably and with mutual consent, a source told the Daily Mail that the marriage finally ended when Imran texted ‘talaq’ three times to Reham. The text is said to have been followed by a brief email.

The PTI also attempted to end speculation over the divorce by directly addressing some of the more ludicrous rumours circulating in the media, including one alleging Reham being physically abusive towards the cricket legend.

“Similarly on behalf of the chairman, I wish to state categorically that stories of Reham Khan hitting Imran Khan are absolute lies – the product of a vicious mind,” party spokesperson Shireen Mazari said in a press statement.

The party spokesperson also clarified that stories of vast monetary settlements to Reham Khan were being floated to target Reham Khan and Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, Imran has refused to discuss the 'personal issue', dressing down one reporter who brought up the divorce. He later apologised to the reporter

“No matter what happened between us, I cannot hear anything about Reham Khan and will not tolerate anyone disparaging her,” the PTI chairman said while addressing the media in Islamabad.

Both Reham and Imran made headlines across the world last week after announcing their divorce over Twitter after a 10-month long marriage.

Since the start of their marriage, Reham made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Soon after the couple married, Reham’s ex-husband, NHS psychiatrist Dr Ijaz Rehman strongly denied allegations he had mistreated her during their marriage. Further, Dr Rehman claimed she used him “like toilet paper to clean up her image” after she found herself harshly criticised by traditionalists in Pakistan who saw Imran’s bride as far too Westernised.

On Saturday, Reham formally announced that divorce papers have been signed by her with her former husband. Contradicting the Daily Mail’s report, Reham said, “With a heavy heart we both decided before I left for England that it was best to part ways so our work commitments were not affected by our personal problems.”

During the announcement, Reham ruled out rumours of any agreement of a financial settlement as false. “It is unfortunate and condemnable how media has been indulging in unbecoming behavior and language,” she said.

“Media started with speculation and followed with serious accusations without evidence. The quest for ratings and the misogynistic witch hunt is shameful and I plan to campaign actively for a media ethics board monitoring all output,” she added.

Further, she said the reason for the divorce was “a breakdown in the relationship”.

She also rejected allegations that she had received Rs50 million from PTI leader Aleem Khan and Rs80 million from Faisal Wada, another leader of the PTI. The TV journalist said that the allegation of physical violence was “not only pure fiction but ludicrous”.

“The allegations of anyone poisoning Imran Khan are not based on fact and no stomach washing was ever carried out,” she said.

“Divorce is a painful experience and we would appreciate sensitivity and understanding from the media for both of us and our children at this difficult time. A malicious campaign against me and my children for over a year has driven us to this decision. I hope that now me and my children will be left alone to rebuild our lives,” Reham added.
