Iran to supply electricity to neighbours
Iran to export 70MW of electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
TEHRAN:
Iran will export 70 megawatts of electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the current Iranian year, which ends on March 20, Fars news agency reported.
Managing Director of Tavanir, Iran’s state-run power supplying and distributing company, Homayoun Ha’eri said Tehran plans to boost power supplies to the two neighbouring countries through its southeastern Sistan-Balochistan province.
Ha’eri said Iran would increase supplies to Afghanistan and Pakistan once the 400 kilo volts transmission line, between the city of Zahedan in Sistan-Balochistan province and the city of Birjand in the South Khorasan province, came online in the near future.
Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan and is helping with reconstruction of the war-ravaged country, by building roads, power transmission lines, border stations and many other infrastructure projects to better link the two nations.
Also, Iran has offered cheap electricity to Pakistan to reduce the country’s acute energy shortages.
