Sectarian violence: Eight ‘target killers’ remanded

They are accused of either killing or being accomplices in the murders of Muawia and many doctors.

KARACHI:
Eight alleged target killers were remanded to the custody of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) by three judicial magistrates on Monday.

The accused Tanvir Abbas alias Kashif, Abrar Hussain,  Pervez Zaidi,  Riffat alias Jehangir, Hasnain Abbas, Sikandar alias Sajid, Ali Mehdi alias Bubblo and Kumail, who are alleged members of an organisation known as the Mehdi force, were produced before Judicial Magistrates (East and West). The police paper showed that they were arrested after a police encounter and were in possession of illegal arms and a vehicle bearing a fake registration number plate at the time of arrest.


They are accused of either killing or being accomplices in the murders of Muawia, son of a Sipah-e-Sahaba leader and many doctors.

The accused are also said to be involved in other sectarian violence in the city. After perusing the remand papers, the Judicial Magistrates remanded the accused into SIU custody till January 5.
