Communal harmony: PUC will continue to protect minorities
Ashrafi said the PUC had peacefully resolved over 24 communal controversies last year by promoting dialogue

The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) will continue to strive to protect minorities’ rights enshrined in the Constitution, PUC chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Ashrafi said on Friday. Ashrafi said the PUC had peacefully resolved over 24 communal controversies last year by promoting dialogue among people of various faiths. He said Islam was a religion of peace and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) contained explicit safeguards regarding minorities’ rights. “No one can be allowed to curb minorities’ rights,” he said. He said no minority community could be allowed to publish blasphemous literature regarding Jesus (PBUH). He called on the government to take notice of this.
