ISLAMABAD:
In order to provide the best facilities to those seeking a driving licence, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Friday inaugurated a ‘one window operation’ at its headquarters.
The system will enable licence-seekers to deposit bank fee, have their identity cards verified by NADRA, and conduct data entry and medical certification services at the same counter.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan inaugurated the as the chief guest.
The operation would ease the process for licence seekers and become operational after its formal inauguration.
The improved facility would have a total of 12 counters, with two specified for medical tests. The biometric system would help fill up licence forms within a few seconds. Furthermore, two counters have been specified to facilitate women and senior citizens.
The ITP office was dealing about 400 driving licence applications daily; the new setup would expand that facility now.
SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob Ahmed told The Express Tribune that this was first time in ITP’s history that all facilities are being provided under one umbrella.
Earlier, licence seekers had to come across ten steps to attain a driving licence, but the new system would contain only three steps of queues management system, one window and driving test board, the SSP added.
He said the project, completed with the help of the corporate sector, has cost Rs10.05 million.
“We are trying our best and would leave no stone unturned to facilitate the people and this would be a worthy facility for them,” Malik remarked.
Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi police have impounded 42 motorcycles for not having documents and registration papers.
The police launched a crackdown in Saddar, Kacheri, RA Bazaar, Choor Chowk and other areas of Rawalpindi during the last 24 hours. The police shifted the impounded motorcycles to lock-ups and registered cases against the violators.
