Clifton resident takes navy man to court

The Sindh High Court directed the counsel for the Clifton Cantonment Board Karachi Thursday to submit land documents for the Navy League offices and flats that were allegedly illegally being constructed in Clifton, Karachi.
A petitioner, Abdul Rehman Muhammad, who is a resident of Sweet Villas, Block 6, Clifton, submitted to the court that Commodore (retd) Tajuddin Najmi had occupied 172 square yards of a non-commercial plot. A building housing Navy League Offices and Flats was being built in violation of the approved building plan for the area, which was purely meant for residential purposes.
He prayed the court to restrain the respondents from the illegal construction. On Thursday, Deputy Attorney General Umer Hayat Sindhu submitted that according to a letter dated February 27, 2009 addressed to the Cantonment Estates Officer of the Clifton Board, the land belongs to the CDGK, therefore, the Military Estates Office has no jurisdiction over it.
The SHC division bench, comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Tufail H Ebrahim, directed Advocate Abdul Hafeez Khan for the Clifton Cantonment Board’s Estate Officer to submit the documents at the next hearing.
