Wapda women to defend hockey title

Ten teams will vie for top honours in the National Women Hockey Championship underway at Hockey Club of Pakistan.

Ten teams will vie for top honours in the National Women Hockey Championship underway at the Hockey Club of Pakistan today.

Wapda will defend their title in the event where the competing teams have been divided into two groups. The defending champions are placed in Group A alongside Punjab (White), Sindh (Colour), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan Army. Group B comprises Pakistan Railway, Islamabad, Sindh (White), Balochistan and Punjab (Colour). The top two teams from each group will enter the semi-finals, and the final will be played on January 11.


The event is being organised by the Sindh Hockey Association and backed by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), but does not carry any prize money. “The event will not carry prize money but we will ensure best possible facilities to competing teams,” said PHF Women Wing President Khushbakht Shujaat.

Wapda will meet Punjab (White) in the opening match, followed by three other matches.
