NAB: Two suspects arrested in development scam
Accused of involvement in embezzling Rs100m.

NAB Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa arrested sub-engineer Deedar Khan and contractor Syed Fazal Hussain. They have been accused of abuse of authority and involvement in embezzling funds amounting to Rs100 million through substandard or ghost development schemes in Mansehra and Torghar districts.
During the course of the enquiry, it was revealed funds had been allocated for development schemes in Mansehra and Torghar under the prime minister’s directives. The government launched the initiatives through the People’s Works Programme-II and allocated Rs225 million for the execution of 567 schemes. These included the construction and uplift of shingle roads, PCC Roads, PCC streets and wells.
Ambar Ali and Zulfaqar Khan, already in the bureau’s custody, allegedly embezzled more than Rs100 million through ghost and substandard schemes during their tenure as Mansehra deputy commissioners in connivance with others. They approved the schemes and allowed payments without the completion of formalities.
Apart from these four officials, NAB arrested Deputy Director Audit Muhammad Aslam Rafique, Contractor Abdul Mustafa, Tehsil Officer (Infrastructure) Muhammad Bashir, Accountant Maqboolur Rehman, Assistant Tehsil Officer Abdul Hameed as well as sub engineers Muhammad Raziq and Azhar Jalil in
this case.
Modaraba scam
Meanwhile, the bureau also arrested Zakirullah who was charged with cheating the public of Rs10 million under a fake Modaraba scheme.
It was revealed the suspect lured people to invest their money in the bogus scheme which promised fruitful returns on investment. The suspect not only stopped paying profits, but also refused to return the original investment before vanishing into thin air.
Zakirullah is now in custody and any person who has claims against the suspect can submit them with the relevant documents to NAB Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, PDA Complex, Block–III, Hayatabad Phase-V, Peshawar.
