Threat no more? CDA says anti-dengue campaign effective

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal on Monday reviewed the preventive measures being taken against dengue fever in the capital.


CDA health services director briefed the meeting that the anti-dengue campaign was launched in Islamabad in February this year, due to which he said far fewer cases were reported from the capital compared to other cities.

He said CDA teams have inspected 21,513 places and collected 16,743 samples so far. The first sample which tested positive for dengue was in July, collected from a shop in Shaheen Market, Sector I-10, explained the official.


He said anti-dengue spraying was carried out at 2,880 potential breeding sites while fogging was carried out at 2,550 places.

The meeting was also informed that the environment directorate cleaned the streams and drains in the city so as to remove any potential site where dengue larva could breed.

The chairman was told that more than 20,000 awareness pamphlets were distributed among the masses while 500 awareness banners were installed throughout the city.

CDA Member Administration and Estate Amer Ahmed Ali said all the formations should remain vigilant to cope with the threat of dengue irrespective of the season. He said that owners of shops, bakeries, restaurants and tyre shops had been directed to take all preventive measures against the virus.
