Dengue threat: Suspected case to be investigated

The Dengue Control Programme says no lives have yet been lost due to the virus

PESHAWAR:
Following the demise of a 12-year-old boy allegedly due to dengue fever on Sunday, the district health office has asked the health department to ascertain the actual cause of death. Sifting through reports filed under the patient profile, health department officials confirmed the boy was held in the paediatric intensive care unit of Khyber Teaching Hospital and was administered the NS1 test, which was positive for dengue. “Even though there were no signs of nose bleeds, urinary bleeds, gastrointestinal bleeding or bodily rashes, the death still needs to be investigated,” a letter issued from the district health office read. It added the case needs to be inspected by a board of specialists. On Sunday, KTH announced the death of Aimal Khan, a 12-year-old boy, was caused by dengue fever. Meanwhile, a private doctor had diagnosed Khan with typhoid on October 29. However, the Dengue Control Programme says no lives have yet been lost due to the virus.
