UN Women representatives call on CM
CM assures support for women empowerment projects
KARACHI:
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said that Sindh was the first province to prepare a bill to protect home-based workers (HBW). The bill will be tabled in the next assembly session.
He said that implementation on other projects aimed towards encouraging women empowerment and girls' education is also underway. The CM was addressing a delegation from the UN-Women programme that called on him at the CM House on Monday.

He further said that the Sindh government is against the jirga system and is taking action against this practice to ensure justice to each individual without any discrimination.
He appreciated the UN-Women programme for launching women economic empowerment projects in eight districts of Sindh and assured them of the government's support.
The country representative of the UN-Women programme, Jamshed M Kazi, informed the CM that their organisation is working towards the restoration of livelihoods for flood-affected communities, including women in Dadu and Mirpurkhas.

They said that the UN was working for female economic empowerment in eight districts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sanghar, Ghotki, Sukkur, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Karachi, through different government and civil organisations. They said that they were planning to visit some of these districts and meet the stakeholders.
