Elections: 116 arrested for violating ECP code of conduct
The IGP appreciated steps taken by law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in the province
LAHORE:
Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera has said Punjab Police have arrested 116 people for violating the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the first phase of local government elections in 12 districts.
In his statement, the IGP said police had seized 14 weapons from the arrested persons.
He said police had registered 33 FIRs, including six in Lahore, five in Kasur, four in Nankana, four in Gujrat, one in Bhakkar, two in Faisalabad, four in Vehari, six in Okara and one in Pakpattan.
He said 41 people had suffered minor injuries in violent clashes. Sukhera praised police officials for providing security on the election day. The IGP appreciated steps taken by law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in the province during the elections. He said efforts to control terrorism and extremism would continue with zeal.
