LAHORE: Traffic on Ferozepur Road was blocked for an hour on Sunday when some 200 people gathered to protest at gas and electricity shortages.

The protesters, mainly residents of Chungi Amar Sidhu and Kot Lakhpat, chanted slogans against the Punjab government and carried banners and placards.

They said that their areas faced more than 10 hours of electricity and gas load shedding. They said they were often unable to cook food for lack of gas. The protesters blamed politicians and government officials for failing to provide basic needs of life.

PML-N MNA Naseer Bhutta came to the scene to cool down the angry protesters, who condemned the PML-N in their slogans.

Protester Muhammad Khalid said, “The PML-N tries to cash in on the situation and instigate people against rival parties.”

“My children have been going to school without having breakfast for the last three days,” said Amna Naeem, a housewife. The protesters also burned their gas bills.
