LAHORE:

Election for chairman and vice-chairman in Union Council No231 (Pak Colony) and for general councillors in four wards of various union councils in the city were postponed on Saturday after mistakes were found in ballot papers printed by the ECP.

In UC 231, ballots were printed with PML-N’s electoral symbol tiger printed next to the names of independent candidates, Umarud Din and Muhammad Shakeel.

The electoral symbol printed next to the names of PML-N candidates Javed Iqbal and Jameel Ahmed was diamond. Presiding Officer Khalid Pervez said polling for chairman and vice-chairman was suspended after several voters complained about the mistake. He said election for six ward councillors went ahead as planned. He announced November 9 as the new date for election on chairman and vice-chairman seats.

General councillor elections were suspended in Ward 3 in UC 86, Ward 5 in UC 162, Ward 4 in UC 185 and Ward 2 in UC 193 over irregularities in ballot papers.
