Shiv Sena sacks its members over ink attack on RTI activist

Party's youth wing chief terms the attack a ‘disgraceful act’

India’s far-right Shiv Sena on Saturday sacked its own members involved in an ink attack on Right To Information (RTI) activist Mallikarjun Bhaikatti.

While condemning the attack on RTI activist, the party’s youth wing chief Aditya Thackeray termed it a ‘disgraceful act’.



"Heard of the unfortunate incident in Latur. The party strongly condemns the disgraceful act. Those involved have been removed from the Party," Thackeray tweeted.

Bhaikatti had irked the Shiv Sena when he filed for RTI information against Latur’s Rajshree Shahu College and held a press conference in this regard.

The angry far-right activists then took Bhaikatti to the college he raised his voice for and beat him up in the presence of students while also smeared his face with ink.



Earlier on October 12, prior to the book launch of former Pakistani foreign minister Khursheed Mahmood Kasuri in Mumbai, activists of Shiv Sena carried out a similar ink attack on Sudheendra Kulkarni, the event organiser of the book launch ceremony.

Kulkarni said he was assaulted as he left his home in Mumbai by a group of Shiv Sena activists, who wanted to intimidate him.



In another act of hatred towards Pakistan in India, nearly three dozen of activists supporters of Shiv Sena party waltzed unchallenged into the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) offices in Wankhede Stadium and shouted anti-Pakistan slogans just before BCCI President Shashank Manohar and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan were due to discuss agreed upon bilateral cricketing fixtures.
