Over noncompliance: KMC officials suspended for evading court orders

SHC had directed the KMC in the month of September to remove encroachments from Jahangir Park within seven days

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administrator Sajjad Hussain Abbasi has suspended as many as nine officials for not complying with the orders of Sindh High Court (SHC).


The court had ordered the removal of encroachments from Jahangir Park and shifting of five employees of KMC living in the park to Korangi's Taj Mustafa Colony.

According to a notification issued by KMC, the administrator has taken notice regarding noncompliance of the order of SHC and suspended nine officials.


KMC land director Aqeel Ahmed Baig, who was among the suspended employees, told The Express Tribune that they were supposed to get quarters in Taj Mustafa Colony in Korangi vacated, for five employees, who were residing in Jahangir Park.

The high court had directed the KMC in the month of September to remove encroachments from Jahangir Park within seven days. Baig said that, on Thursday, they went to get the quarters in Taj Mustafa Colony vacated but the South deputy commissioner had stopped them from carrying out their operation.

According to him, the deputy commissioner does not have such authority. Instead, he claimed, they were supposed to be provided with police force by the deputy commissioner, which did not happen.

The other suspended officials included land anti-encroachment director Mazhar Khan, Korangi land anti-encroachment additional director Moin Ghori and KMC estate director Muhammad Muneer Ali Khan.
