Police register cases against PML-N leaders for flouting election rules in Faisalabad
Cases were registered for disrupting law and order on eve of the local government elections; ECP takes notice
FAISALABAD/ISLAMABAD:
Faisalabad police registered on Friday cases against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Sher Ali and three other party members for violating the code of conduct set for the local government elections.
Cases were registered on charges of disrupting law and order and use of speakers during a workers convention in Dhobi Ghatt area on Thursday night.
Sher Ali is a former mayor of Faisalabad and father of State Minister Abid Sher Ali.

Others who were booked include PML-N’ MPA Mian Tahir Jameel, former MPA Khawaja Muhammad Islam and Chaudhary Shafiq Ahmad Gujjar .
Police, however, have not made any arrest as yet.
Phase I of the local government elections in Sindh and Punjab are scheduled for Saturday.
ECP takes notices
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan took notice of the violations committed and asked minister Abid Sher Ali, his father, as well as district’s returning and coordination officers to appear before the commission on October 3 and furnish an explanation.
The ECP has also deferred local government polls in some wards of Union Councils in Gujrat and Faisalabad districts over the aforementioned violations.
