Fraud: Former VC, campus director nabbed

A NAB spokesman said an advertisement for the sub-campus said it was offering HEC-recognised degrees

ISLAMABAD:
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested former Bahauddin Zakariya University vice chancellor Syed Khawaja Alqama and BZU Lahore Campus Director Hamza Munir on Thursday over misuse of authority in opening a sub campus in Lahore.  A NAB spokesman said Alqama and Munir, proprietor of the West Continental Group, had opened a BZU sub campus at Lahore in violations of rules. He said Alqama had signed the agreement as BZU vice chancellor. He said such an agreement could only be made by the university syndicate.  He said the ex-VC and the BZU registrar had issued the NOC to West Continental Group (WCG) without waiting for approval from the university syndicate.  He said an advertisement for the sub-campus said it was offering HEC-recognised degrees. He said the proprietors of the West Continental Group had then collected Rs925 million in admission fee from students.
