Migrants interviewed on Austria-Slovenia border share pictures of people and possessions they left behind

A stunning new photo series offers a unique perspective into the abandoned livelihoods of migrants undertaking a life-threatening journey into Europe.

Photographed displaying pictures of their loved ones or once-peaceful home lives, the images offer a snapshot of humanity.

Interviewed on the Austria-Slovenia border, the migrants, hailing from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Democratic Republic of Congo, show  snapshots of their lost past, and the livelihood they abandoned in search of a better living.

More than 680,000 asylum seekers have entered into Europe this year, after fleeing war and deprivation in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Slovenia and Austria are bearing the most of this refugee crisis.
