Most of the residents appear to have rallied behind the candidates fielded by the PML-N: Colonel (r) Tahir Kardar for chairman and Syed Kaleem-ur-Rehman for vice chairman. The PTI has nominated Major (r) Sajid Bukhari for chairman and Zahid Khan Sherwani for vice chairman. Colonel Kardar was elected nazim in 2001 and has been twice president of Model Town Society. Major Bukhari is contesting the election for the first time. Both say that the Model Town Society ends up handling most of the problems in their area. The katchi abadi on the fringes of Model Town Society has sewerage issues, which the candidates say they will try to resolve. Several blocks of Model Town Society including A, B C, F and K among others fall in the UC. The number of registered voters here exceeds 17,000.
