Abducted labourers: Mehsud elders urged to ensure safe recovery
The Mehsud elders and the South Waziristan PA will meet again today
DI KHAN:
Elders of the Mehsud tribe on Sunday held a jirga with the political agent of South Waziristan over the abduction of 22 labourers from the agency’s Nili Kach area on Friday. The jirga took place in a political compound in Tank district.
According to details, South Waziristan PA Zafarul Islam asked the Mehsud elders to cooperate to ensure the labourers are safely recovered and urged them to ensure no such incidents take place in the future.
The elders assured the tribe would fully cooperate but pointed out that the security situation in South Waziristan has made it difficult for them to fulfill their responsibilities under the Frontier Crimes Regulation. The Mehsud elders and the South Waziristan PA will meet again today (Monday) at the Tank district political compound.
