Higher education: ‘Construction of IT university will be complete by 2018’

Education Minister Rana Mashhood said construction work was underway and classes at the university would start by 2018

The provincial government is setting up an information technology university in Rahim Yar Khan, Education Minister Rana Mashhood said on Sunday.


He was speaking to a delegation of university teachers from southern Punjab districts.

The minister said the establishment of the Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Technology will prove a milestone in promotion of education in the region. He said construction work was underway and classes at the university would start by 2018.

Mashhood said the institute would be set up at a cost of Rs3.84 billion.

He said the university would offer four-year bachelors’ degree programmes in engineering, information technology and information and communication technology. He said the university would later be upgraded to offer master’s and doctorate degree programmes.

The minister said with the establishment of the university students from Bahawalpur division would no longer need to travel far away from their homes to get good quality higher education.
