Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) have formed an electoral alliance in UC 114 against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The union council consists of Johar Town’s J Block (J-1 to J-3, G-4), H Block and parts of blocks I and F. The total number of registered voters is 15,690.
The area is part of the National Assembly’s 128 constituency and provincial assembly’s 160 constituency. It is considered a PML-N stronghold. MNA Malik Afzal Khokhar and his brother MPA Malik Saiful Malook Khokhar are both from the PML-N.
PTI’s candidate for chairman is Chaudhry Azhar Hussain. JI’s Chaudhry Abdul Qayyum Gujjar is contesting for vice chairman on his panel.
The two parties have fielded joint candidates for the six councillor seats.
The PTI candidates said that the area was plagued by street crime. “Security and water are the major issues. If the PTI-JI alliance wins from the area, we would make sure that these problems are resolved on a priority basis,” they said.
They said that the alliance would give the PML-N a tough time.
PML-N candidate for chairman Chaudhry Shahid said he was not afraid of the PTI-JI alliance. “Our position is strong.
We have a well-developed housing society. There are no major development issues here.
These elections are about the ideological division between the PML-N and the PTI,” he said. Shahid who was formerly allied with the PTI said: “The PTI gave me their ticket for vice chairman. I turned down their offer.”
