Let Girls Learn programme will see US build schools in Pakistan
WASHINGTON:
US First Lady Michelle Obama and Maryam Nawaz on Thursday vowed to work for promotion of girls’ education in Pakistan as the former announced a $70 million programme which will benefit 200,000 young girls.
The two launched the “Let Girls Learn” programme at the White House on Thursday, with both sides committing to work closely on expanding opportunities for education of young girls in Pakistan. Under the $70 million programme to educate adolescent girls in Pakistan, Michelle said that it would primarily help build over a dozen new schools and rehabilitate hundreds others.
“We will be funding skills-training programmes and college scholarships for girls. And, taken together, these efforts will reach 200,000 girls in Pakistan,” the US first lady said. Maryam thanked Michelle for her support to strengthen Pakistan’s education sector.
