KARACHI:
The Rangers informed the law and order meeting at CM House on Friday that there are 78 sensitive places in Karachi, which are being monitored through cameras, air surveillance and intelligence network along with the deployment of 5,000 personnel.
“The sector and wing commanders are leading the jawans,” said Rangers director-general Major-General Bilal Akbar while addressing the meeting that was chaired by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. The meeting was informed that 104 places have been declared ‘most sensitive’ in other districts of the province, where around 3,000 Rangers will be on security duty.
Regarding cellular phone service, the chief minister directed the chief secretary to approach the federal government to shut down the service in the city and eight other districts of the provinces for the day given the security threats. “Earlier, the government had decided to suspend the mobile phone service just for Muharram 10 but intelligence agencies suggested suspending the services from Muharram 9,” said a government official.
Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali said that, during the targeted operation, many notorious criminals and terrorists have been arrested.
Those who attended the meeting included the Sindh IG, Additional IG Mushtaque Mahar, Additional IG Counter-Terrorism Force Sanaullah Abbasi, Rangers DG Akbar and representatives of intelligence agencies.
