PESHAWAR:
The district administration has arrested 12 businessmen during raids in various parts of the city on Wednesday.
An official privy to the development told The Express Tribune, Peshawar DC Riaz Mehsud instructed Additional DC Irshad Ali Sodar to take action against all those businessmen who were illegally conducting business activities in the city.
“A special team – which included AC Altaf Ahmad Sheikh, AAC Muhammad Shoaib – was constituted,” he said. “A raid was conducted at a salt factory on Kohat Road.” According to the official, substandard salt was being produced at the factory.
“At least seven people were arrested from a chewing gum factory in a separate raid,” he said. “The factory used labels of foreign brands and took no measures to ensure cleanliness.”
A printing press and two other factories on Ring Road were also sealed. “The printing press was making packages for foreign brands which were being sold illegally,” he said. “Meanwhile, the factories were sealed for using polluted oil.”
Speaking to the media, Sodar said the operation was launched on the basis of complaints filed by residents.
“Action will be taken against these fake factories,” he said.
He warned the owners of factories to produce quality products and give priority to cleanliness. Sodar appealed to residents of Peshawar to inform them about illegal businesses in the area.
