Foreign assets: Reply sought in plea seeking permission to transfer money abroad

Lahore High Court on Monday sought a response from the federal government in an application seeking government’s permission to transfer £200,000 to the United Kingdom for purchase of an apartment in London.
In has civil miscellaneous application, petitioner Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree said he wanted to purchase an apartment in London for personal use during his frequent trips for research work. He requested the court to direct the federal government to let him transfer the money. The petitioner submitted that he frequently visited London for work and paid up to £400 a day to rent accommodation. He said he could no longer afford the high rents and wanted to purchase an apartment for himself.
Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan gave the federal government till the next hearing on November 3 to respond to the matter. He also directed the government to send a copy of its written response to the petitioner two days before the next hearing.
Petitioner Jafree had filed the application in his 23-year-old petition accusing 64 people of money laundering. The petition had sought directives for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan, PPP’s Aitzaz Ahsan, PML-Q’s Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, advocate Asma Jahangir and 58 others to declare their foreign assets.
On Monday, the court also sent notices to these respondents seeking their replies in the matter.
