LAHORE:
Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed the Punjab government to provide details of all government residences in the province by November 16.
Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan of the LHC issued the order while hearing a petition filed by LHC Deputy Registrar Akmal Khan. Appearing before the LHC, Assistant Advocate General Abdul Aziz Malik told the court that there were 3,690 government residences in the province.
In his petition, the petitioner submitted that the chief minister was using his discretionary powers to allot residences to government officers. “So far, the CM has allotted 697 residences against merit using his discretionary powers,” he said.
“Under what law is the CM allotting government residences at his discretion?” Justice Khan asked the assistant advocate general.
The petitioner said that court officers were being deprived of government residences due to the use of discretionary powers by the CM. He requested the court to declare such allotments illegal and order allotments on merit.
