BAHAWALPUR:
During the current fiscal year, the government initiated 253 development projects in Bahawalpur, 113 of which were complete, Education Minister Engineer Baligur Rehman said at a meeting with the District Coordination Committee on Sunday.
He said nearly Rs56.6 million had been spent on the projects so far. Rehman said they were working hard to ensure that all projects were completed on time and there was no compromise on quality. He said transparency and public scrutiny would be ensured upon completion of the projects.
Participants of the meeting, were told that the government had set aside Rs103.8 million for the repair and construction of dangerous school buildings, Rs6.6 million to set up IT labs at public high schools, Rs3.5 million for the construction of additional classrooms, and Rs208.5 million to provide missing facilities at schools. Rehman said work on those projects would start soon. Under the Community Development Programme, this fiscal year, 183 projects have been approved and more than Rs180 million will be spent on them.
The participants were told that in the first phase of the CM’s Rural Roads Programme, a 56.75km metalled road and 15 construction projects will be completed at a cost of Rs315 million. In the second phase, an 80km metalled road and eight construction schemes will be completed at a cost of Rs490 million.
Earlier, Health Executive District Officer Shahid Khaleeq discussed details of the CM’s Roadmap Programme. He said several new projects had been launched in the health sector as well. “There are several tehsil headquarters hospitals, basic health centres and rural health centres where patients are given medicines for free.” Rehman said 100 per cent attendance of doctors and paramedics at THQ hospitals, and health centres must be ensured.
