KARACHI:
Opener Javeria Khan’s match-winning knock of 90 runs led Pakistan Women to an impressive six-wicket victory over hosts West Indies Women in their first ODI at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia.

Set a challenging target of 223, Javeria built a 54-run opening stand with Marina Iqbal before the latter was dismissed by Deandra Dottin on a personal score of 23.

In-form Bismah Maroof then took the game forward with Javeria, staying at the crease until she too was sent back to the pavilion after a 49-ball 21 with Pakistan 103-2.

Javeria, who has a ODI century to her name, kept the scoreboard ticking with Nain Abidi and took Pakistan close to victory with a 79-run third-wicket stand.

The 27-year-old was just 10 runs short of recording a second one-day hundred but fell to Stacy-Ann King, leaving Pakistan needing 41 runs to win.

Nain, who scored 31 off 37 deliveries, soon followed Javeria with Pakistan’s score standing on 193-4.

Skipper Sana Mir and Nida Dar then stood firm and took Pakistan to 225-4 with 11 balls to spare. Sana was unbeaten on 14 while Nida remained not out on 19 at the close of play.
