Sarwar said the party was united under the leadership of Imran Khan and was working to change the status-quo in the country. He also expressed concern over the possibility of the government using the Kissan Package to influence the forthcoming local government elections.
“It was PTI that sided with the farmers during their protests and organised conventions for them across the country,” he said. The former governor said the opposition had brought farmers’ issues in the limelight. “The party was a part of the struggle that culminated in the announcement of the package,” he said. Sarwar said that while the PTI sympathised with farmers, the party was opposing the package as it had been introduced to influence the local government elections.
Strongly rejecting rumours regarding internal fissures in the PTI, the former governor said those who thought of the party as a feeble political force were mistaken. Recent reports of national organiser Shah Mehmood Qureshi having parted ways with the party were rife along with rumours about action against individuals who had not campaigned for the party in the recent by-polls.
While the party supremo had said that he was aware of those who had not played their role in the recently concluded by-polls, Sarwar rejected claims that the party had issued show-cause notices to various elements in this regard.
Commenting on the elections he said there was growing evidence regarding amendments to voter list in the constituency. He said a special cell had been constituted to probe the allegations. “The party is gathering evidence of electoral malpractice in the polls,” the former governor said. Sarwar said the party was striving to quickly make the reality public.
