Nestle Pakistan has urged the government to take steps to facilitate farmers and promote commercialising of dairy farming aimed at optimum utilisation of milk. The incentives and facilities could be in the form of provisions including soft loans, livestock insurance policy, latest technology to the farmers like chillers, subsidy for livestock businesses and declaring free tax zones.
Nestle Pakistan stated that the high prices of dairy products in Pakistan were due to the increasing cost of inputs and frequent natural disasters, such as floods and diseases.
Nestle Pindi Ali Bhatia zone Regional Milk Collection Manager Dr Mustansir said that farmers cannot afford the high cost of inputs and fail to commercialise their dairy farm. Consequently, a significant portion of their milk could not be processed any further and it ultimately affects the overall productivity of the sectors and prices alike.
