Mismanagement: Commodities found ‘stolen’ from USC
Audit officials told PAC that products worth Rs2.48 billion were purchased in violation of PPRA rules
ISLAMABAD:
A sub-committee of the Public Account Committee (PAC) directed the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) to strictly adhere to the rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) in its purchases of various commodities. Chairing the meeting of the sub-committee to discuss the audit paras of 2007-08, Ashiq Hussain Gopang expressed displeasure over the violation of the PPRA rules by the USC in purchase of products to be sold at the stores. Audit authorities told the committee that valuables worth Rs2.087 million were stolen from the USC stores due to the inappropriate measures by the department. Ministry of Industries and Production officials apprised the body that Rs0.22 million have been recovered, on which the PAC directed to recover the remaining amount. Audit officials told PAC that products worth Rs2.48 billion were purchased in violation of PPRA rules.
